CACOPHONY is a short suite in three movements that explores, from a pedagogical and artistic perspective, the concept of cacophony as a creative starting point. Conceived as a Grade 2.5 piece, it aims to offer young performers an accessible musical challenge while proposing a sonic reflection on one of the most commonplace—and often chaotic—moments in the life of any ensemble: tuning.

The entire work is constructed exclusively from the band's traditional tuning notes: A and B♭. These two pitches, which normally serve as a reference for achieving the group's sonic homogeneity, become here the absolute generative material. Through overlapping, rhythmic shifts, contrasting articulations, and dynamic variations, the apparent melodic limitation is transformed into a rich timbral and textural laboratory.

CACOPHONY is not only a concert piece, but also a pedagogical tool that invites performers to rediscover the expressive value of the simplest sonic foundations, functioning here as a play on words and meanings: the work deliberately interweaves noise and music, just as the title itself suggests that blurred boundary between disorder and sonic discourse. What is traditionally perceived as chaos—the disorganized superimposition of sounds during tuning—is transformed into structured material, reminding us that music can emerge precisely where there is apparently only noise.
